The ET Lounge - Dundee United Discussion / Re: Transfer Deadline Day
« Last post by Canadian Arab on Today at 03:26:43 PM »The money offered for Conway was a bit of a joke, and after Ayr take their slice we would get barely half a million. Not to be sniffed at, but not what he's worth, and would we rather reduce our debt by barely 10% or keep our most influential player for a full season? ST and Houstie have all the numbers and they obviously reckon we're just as well off, if not better off, keeping him rather than selling to that ginger midget for a joke offer. Also, who is to say that Conway won't sign an extension for at least 6 months, on improved terms (that we can now afford!) so that he isn't leaving for feck all in January. We gave him his big chance, and not every player thinks like Mark the mink Wilson. An extension would be a real bonus for us, and he would deserve the salary raise.

Middlesbrough target Craig Conway set to pen new deal with Dundee United
Sep 5 2010 Mark Guidi, Sunday Mail
DUNDEE UNITED chief Stephen Thompson has revealed he will sit down with Craig Conway to discuss a new contract.
The midfielder has a year to run on his current deal and the club turned down a £600,000 bid from Middlesbrough last month.
In one way the United chairman is pleased that Conway is still at Tannadice because his contribution on the pitch is vital.
But with United more than £6m in debt, he wouldn't have minded cashing in on Conway - and if Boro had increased their offer to £725,000 they would have got their man.
Thompson wanted that bit more to cover money United would have had to pay Conway's former club Ayr United as part of the agreement when they signed him.
"Middlesbrough just didn't meet our valuation for Conway," said the United supremo. "They e-mailed an offer to us and we rejected it.
"They weren't for negotiating - it was take it or leave it. Ayr United are due 20 per cent of any fee. They wouldn't budge on that either.
"We'll have a chat with Craig about a new contract, something that's attractive to him and also protects us so we don't lose him for nothing.
"Perhaps we can insert a clause so that he can leave for a certain figure."
